10 Common Mistakes to Avoid During Umrah (A First-Timer's Guide)

Published on: 1/3/2025

Don't let simple errors spoil your spiritual journey. From Ihram violations to misunderstanding Tawaf rules, here is what to watch out for.

1. Thinking Niyyah is just verbal

Niyyah must be in the heart. Saying it loudly without presence of heart is insufficient.

2. Using Scented Soap in Ihram

Many pilgrims forget that using perfumed soap, shampoo, or wipes is prohibited in the state of Ihram. Use unscented toiletries.

3. Exposing the Right Shoulder unnecessarily

Men only need to uncover their right shoulder (Idtiba) during the Tawaf of Umrah. It should be covered during Sa'i and prayers.

4. Shouting Duas in Chorus

This disturbs other pilgrims. Make dua softly and personally to Allah.
